VERTI - ISSUE NO.2

A FRESH START

LETTER FROM JESS: CO-EDITOR IN CHIEF & VISUALS/FASHION DIRECTOR

Hi again to you lovely viewers and a warm welcome to any newbies! I’m so excited to share this new issue of VERTI with you! Thank you again to the team at VERTI, couldn’t have made it without your help. After much organising and late night editing we’re very proud to announce our Spring Issue 2021 of VERTI Magazine! Tyler and I have decided to title this Issue ‘A FRESH START’. I personally think it’s quite fitting as it’s Spring and many of us are starting our final term at school. Yes, Spring brings happiness and sunshine but also hayfever and school exams for some. Let’s remember to be kind to each other this season!

For our Spring Issue we couldn’t think of anyone better to be our cover star than Aleeya McFadyen-Rew (I still can’t remember how to spell her last name without checking her insta bio though). Aleeya encases the Spring season, with her relaxed personality and smile that never slips off her face. We’ve put together a short dance film titled ‘DYNAMITE’ which is quite fitting as Aleeya herself packs quite the punch in the dance realm. Part of Chilton’s St James’ ballet academy (CBA), Aleeya has recently been accepted to study contemporary dance full time at the New Zealand School of Dance for 2022.

We’re also delighted to showcase our successful collaboration with Remnants Shop (@remnantsshop) and Two Thousand and One Jewellery (twothousands_onejewelry) for this season’s cover/campaign shoot. We wanted to work with local businesses that work ethically. Remnants shop is a retail store based in Auckland (and online) that stocks vintage, preloved and beautiful NZ handmade items by owner Kayla McGregor. 2001 Jewellery is also based in Auckland (and online) and is a jewellery brand that sells one of a kind pieces that are to die for! I would definitely recommend everyone to check out these brands!

Take your time to venture our website and take a look at our new fashion, media and culture articles. Don’t forget to check out the ‘shopping cart’ section to find some Spring outfit inspiration! I really hope this season is a fresh start for everyone. If you’re one of the lucky ones who don’t have hayfever, go on many walks and immerse yourself in nature. We do live in a country that looks spectacular during this season.

Remember to breathe,

Jess xx

LETTER FROM TYLER: CO-EDITOR IN CHIEF & CULTURE DIRECTOR

Welcome all to the second release for VERTI! Time really does fly, it’s crazy to think that only a year ago Jess and I were starting to create this magazine. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this magazine and for the support and hard work of the team and viewers.

I have been sooooo impatient to release this Spring issue because it is literally AMAZING! Aleeya McFadyen-Rew, our cover star for this issue, is without a doubt the best person who could be the face of this release. She is crazy talented, stunning and has a very contagious smile. A huge congratulations to her for being accepted to study Contemporary full time at New Zealand School of Dance next year, best of luck to you Aleeya! Also would like to bring some attention to the Queen behind the camera Jessica Chen! Your leadership of this magazine and creative ideas are so inspiring and motivating to not only me but everyone who you encounter. I truly believe that when people see the photos for this issue they will see the passion that you have poured into them.

We chose the name “A FRESH START” as the title of this Spring issue because Spring is a season of new life, renewal and awakening. This season is when flowers bloom and we see their true natural beauty all around us instead of just at the entrance to the supermarket. The bible verse that we chose to spotlight for this release is Song of Songs 2:11-13 (NIV). “See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land. The fig tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance…” This is a beautiful verse which helps remind us that the cold and darkness of Winter is leaving and we can rejoice for the warmth and sunshine has returned, both metaphorically and literally. Sometimes during Winter we can lose our zeal and motivation for life but Spring gives us a sign of hope and reassures us that it’s all going to be okay.

As you go through these articles and photo albums I pray that you would feel a sense of peace and belonging. Never forget that you are loved, wanted and accepted. And if this year has been tough, remember that after every dark night there is a new and glorious morning.

Tyler
