I’m sure at least some of you readers have seen some sort of crochet recently. From patterned crochet pants on TikTok to crocheted cardigans and tank tops on Pinterest. But if you’ve ever tried crocheting or knitting you would know that at first it’s quite hard to get right. And if you’re anything like me, well…the hand-eye coordination needs a bit of polishing up. Although crocheting (debatable) is quite a bit easier than knitting. This is why I’ve gathered the help of a lovely friend @sophieleungwai who has compiled a few tips for you. Even an inspiration board (we can’t go without some Pinterest inspo) to help you along the journey!

Sophie's Tips:
1. Tension on the hook - Tension matters, keep the string of wool at the same tightness, otherwise your project will end up wonky.
2. Don’t be scared to unravel - stitch in time saves nine! Unraveling will ensure your project will stay straight and follow the pattern.
3. Patience - Take your time, sometimes things will get repetitive or boring but your end project is always gorgeous and you can be super proud of yourself!
4. Start with a small project and work your way up. Don’t think you’re going to be able to make a massive blanket in the very beginning. Start with something easy like a granny square or a hat. If you’re just beginning, you’re more likely to get fed up with the lack of progress.
5. Practice - sometimes before starting your project, it’s good to practice the basic stitches like single crochet, double crochet and triple crochet. YouTube has great tutorials for them. Always pay attention to what stitch you’re using because it will determine how your project ends up looking.
6. Use stitch markers - It helps to remember how many you’ve done. Bobby pins work well if you don’t have any.
