BEDROOM ARCADE
RECORD COLD HITS NEW YORK CITY
May 24th 2021
By Isla Radley
I don’t know about you but personally I spend almost all of my time in my room. I want it to be just right. So when I've come home from a rubbish day I can just waltz into my room, sit in there for a while and feel good energy. It's one of the only places you can do whatever you'd like, in reason, to it! If your parents are the type to say “don't put holes in my walls” technically these are my walls in my room, but there are always alternatives! For instance a whole ball of bluetack or non-stick hooks. Easy replacements. First of all, find out what your ‘feel’ is. Is it the New York big window, mattress on flour with only two colours throughout the whole room? Cottage style with minimalist framed art with more plants than you have in your garden? A come to life spotify den with posters of your favorite artists, old vinyls, photos of the adventures you've been on? Or even a combination of all in one! Here are some super cool ideas to decorate your own space and where to buy! happy scrolling! 🧡

Colour palette
Popular colors to base your room off are cream/grey/white/blue.. You can purchase similar tones from your local Resene paint store, Mitre 10 or Bunnings. If you're looking for furniture that will go with any kind of decor try monochrome colours like wood, white or cream. Keeping colours light will make your room seem more spacious. A great place to look for furniture are Mocka in Lower Hutt, Beds R Us in Lower Hutt and TSB Living in Wellington. A cheaper alternative is Kmart or any second hand furniture stores.

Pottery lessons with yourself
Good quality pottery can be expensive to just decorate some cupboards or even to put plants in. So make your own! Purchase some moldable clay from warehouse stationary and make your own cups, plant vases, jewellery dishes (and rings to put inside 👀) or even incense holders!

Childhood favourite! (BEANBAGS)
Do you ever get bored of sitting on your bed? Well a beanbag is a super fun alternative! Kmart has some super comfy fluffy bean bag covers in grey and white. Can speak from experience, they are so cozy! You can purchase the bean bag balls from either The Warehouse, Briscoes, Mitre 10 or Bunnings.

Shelving
Are you loving the reading vibe of having some cool bookshelves with flowers in them but you don't like reading like me? Any thrift store has you covered. Second hand stores are the perfect place to find old books, magazines and what not for around $5 what a steal! And bookshelves... Mitre 10 and Kmart sell wooden crates to put your books in.. or diy with old pieces of wood to make into a box!- Also ignore that sloth looking thing

Vintage vinyls
Decorate your room with some old vinyls or even to add to your collection (if you have a record player). These vintage babies can be bought from MINT MUSIC in the City Arcade, Upper Hutt. They have brand new records or old cheap $5 vinyls to put on your wall! To add record player collection Slow Boat Music on Cuba St Wellington is a dope store to find some perfect condition records. Cuba St in general has a lot of vintage/thrift stores and (secret: you can also find a rack of records at the back of the Hallensteins store).

Rugrat
Don't like your carpet? Cover it up with a cow print rug online at overstock.com or any second hand stores or even town fairs! Cow print anything is rather trendy right now and it tends to go with everything. Or you could opt for a knitted rug that you can find on insta and support small businesses! Super fun way to decorate your room that doesn't take up much space!
