A CREATIVE'S INSIGHT W/ LJC: Arts Articles
Music is a very key part of our everyday lives. Whether it's screaming the lyrics to some classic throwbacks with friends or listening to that song while looking out the rain covered window, most of us listen to music on a daily basis as a way to connect with others and our feelings. When thinking of a person who has great music taste the first person that came to mind was without a doubt Lara Cameron! Lara is such an amazing friend and I personally love her music taste, she is such a lovely girl and is beautiful inside and out!
We started by chatting about Lara’s current favourites beginning with the Christian music genre. Lara’s favourite christian artist “would have to be Hillsong Young & Free”, which makes it no surprise that her favourite Praise song (Best Friends) and Worship song (So Will I) are both by Hillsong Y&F. When Lara was asked who her favourite artist was she enthusiastically replied with “Frank Ocean, because of the way his lyrics can seem to go over your head but there is so much art and meaning contained in them”. She also mentioned Jhené Aiko and Brent Faiyaz, two of her favourite underrated artists. Lara’s favourite album is ‘Drive Slow’, by Mac Ayres and a song that never fails to get her ‘in the feels’ is ‘Japanese Denim’ by Daniel Caesar who has also been an inspiration to Lara.
As well as having immaculate music taste Lara is also an amazing artist, designer and musician. Some of us often struggle as to how we can incorporate God into these areas. When Lara was asked how she connects God into her creativity she replied with, “God breathes on creativity and his breath is what makes our creations come alive!” She also recommended praying over your work. “Pray over your work as God is able to give you ideas and inspiration”. On the topic of inspiration Lara also spoke about a couple music artists who most inspire her, “Frank Ocean (who she aspires to be like) inspires me because of how his lyrics are more emotional rather than making sense.” Along with these artists Lara also gets inspiration from Pinterest, Vogue and ‘the one and only @hope__jackson.’ She also mentioned her favourite inspirational quote by Annaliese Slade; “Comparison is the thief of Joy”.
We all have people who we admire and aspire to be like, these people are some of the most influential voices in our lives. When I asked Lara who she most aspires to be like musically she responded with, “Christian versions of SZA and of course Frank Ocean, I admire their artistry and their ability to express themselves in a way that is meaningful to them.” She also mentioned a few of her favourite female artists were HER, SZA, Benee and Jhene Aiko. Lara’s favourite designer is Jerry Lorenzo of the brand Fear of God.
That concludes this interview with the gorgeous Lara Cameron. I would like to thank Lara for being a part of this section and this interview. Your creativity, personality and faith in God is truly inspiring to myself, Jess and many other people.
That's all for now,
Tyler
